Comprehensive healthcare program in Sri Lanka
(2005-2008)
The specific measures in over 500 villages encompass, amongst other things, raising awareness about how to recognize and avoid the main health problems prevailing in the area, about food security, drinking water supplies and sanitary measures, and the supply of essential medicines.

Humuliza - psychosocial support for AIDS orphans in Tanzania 
(1997-2007) 
Through psychosocial support, AIDS orphans learn to cope with the loss of their parents and with life on their own. The Novartis Foundation for Sustainable Development supports the Humuliza project in Tanzania, which provides comprehensive support to affected children. The project is regarded internationally as best practice.

Improving access to leprosy services in Sri Lanka 
(1989–2006)
During the project’s first phase, efforts focused on generating and meeting the demand for leprosy services by means of social marketing methods. After leprosy was eliminated by 1998 at the national level, the Novartis Foundation focused its efforts on integrating leprosy services into the general health services of Sri Lanka.

Integrated healthcare project in Mali 
(2001–2005)
In Mali the Novartis Foundation has been active during the years 2001-2005 with an integrated health project in the country’s largest rural municipality. Here, the establishment of a health insurance scheme was linked from the outset with improvement in the range and quality of curative and preventive services offered.
