The Primary Healthcare program in Mali has been supported by the Novartis Foundation since 2007 and has achieved its goal of improving access to primary care services in rural areas. The program focused on improving quality of care through supportive supervision using the digital tool e-TIQH (an electronic Tool to Improve Quality in Health) that was first validated and now scaled throughout Tanzania. The initiative targeted training of health providers and enabled better financial access to care for patients through community health insurance schemes. The Integrated Management of Childhood Illness Computerized Adaptation and Training Tool (ICATT) e-learning has also been rolled out nationwide for training of healthcare workers both in pre- and in-service settings.
Our partner for the program includes Nouvelle Initiative pour un Développement Durable (NIDD) in collaboration with the Centre d’Expertise et de Recherche en Télémédecine et e-Santé, Mali and the national health authorities. Technical support for the implementation of e-TIQH was provided by the Tanzanian team of Ifakara, a wonderful example of the power of South-South collaboration.
