The Novartis Foundation’s story spans over four decades of innovation in health and care. We began by fighting neglected diseases such as leprosy and malaria, co-designing and validating with partners the new strategies and tools for interrupting their transmission (e.g. the Leprosy Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (LPEP) strategy, AI4leprosy, …). Since then, we have evolved to address the growing burden of cardiometabolic disease in urban settings.

Our history is one of innovation through collaboration, and more recently through data, digital and AI. The lessons learned from our past programs continue to inform our approach today — helping us design smarter, far-reaching, impactful health interventions that are sustainable at scale and leave no one behind.

Our shift to cardiometabolic health reflects the recognition that cardiovascular disease is now the world’s leading cause of death and a burden of disease, especially in cities.

From Better Hearts Better Cities to Digital Health and the use of AI for disease elimination, every program has contributed to our learning and our revised focus:

using the convergence of science and technology to reimagine the way we improve health and care for all.
